Nancy Marie Innocenzi

Nancy Marie Innocenzi, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17th at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Red Bank, she was a long time resident of Bordentown Township. Nancy graduated from Hamilton High School West in 1964. After graduation, Nancy began her career with the Federal Government, starting out as a secretary. She retired in 2001 after 37 years of dedicated service as a Budget Analysis for the United States Property and Fiscal Office. Nancy was a member and Past President of the Bordentown Elks 2085 Ladies Auxiliary and was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Bordentown. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, caring friend and will be missed by many.

The daughter of the late Arlene Davis Callahan, she is survived by her husband; Robert L. Innocenzi, her daughters and sons-in-law; Angela and Walt Fajgier, Dana and Joe Sergio, her son; Matthew Innocenzi, her grandchildren; Shane Fajgier, Jake Fajgier and Joey Sergio, her father and his companion; Joseph P. Callahan Sr. and Fran Bodolosky, her sisters and brother-in-law; Joan Butterworth, Patricia Craver, Barbara and Rich DeLuca, Penny Bruthers, Janet Callahan and her Companion Cynthia Baughman, her brother; Joseph P. Callahan Jr., many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday December 21st at 11sam at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown with Monsignor James Innocenzi, celebrant. Harry A. Putnam

Harry A. Putnam, 81, died December 11, 2009 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly, NJ. Born in Worcester, Mass., he had resided in Bordentown with his family since 1968. Mr. Putnam served in the United States Army for 22 years including tours in Panama, Japan, Korea and Germany. He was a member of the 24th Infantry Division in Japan in 1950, and upon the outbreak of the Korean War was among the first units sent there, where he served from 1950-1951. He was a member of “Operation Gold,” a successful CIA project in Berlin Germany from 1954-1955. Mr. Putnam retired in 1968 and was the Administrator/Instructor for the Jr. ROTC Program at Bordentown Military Institute. While there, he completed his BS degree at TCNJ, then Trenton State College, in 1972. Mr. Putnam taught in the Clara Barton School from 1972–1978. After receiving his MA in Education and Supervision from Rider College, he became the Assistant Principal at the Beverly Elementary School and subsequently the Administrator of the Stockton Elementary School, Stockton, New Jersey. In 1984 Mr. Putnam joined the NJ Dept. of Corrections as an Assistant Supervisor of Education Programs, serving at Southern State Correctional Facility, the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women at Clinton, and the Garden State Reception and Youth Correctional Facility until his retirement in 1993. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 13, 1995 by the Most Reverend John C. Reiss, Bishop of Trenton, and served at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Bordentown until his retirement in 2009.

Mr. Putnam was a member of American Legion Post 26, Bordentown; Past Grand Knight, Bordentown Council 570, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Bishop Ahr Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; and a volunteer at the McGuire AFB Pharmacy. He was a past member of Hope Hose Co. No. 1; the City of Bordentown Planning Board from 1988-2000, and its chairman for the last seven years of his tenure.

He is survived by his wife Anne S. Putnam of Bordentown; two daughters and sons-in-law Dr. Elizabeth A. Putnam and Dr. Mark A. Pershouse of Missoula, Montana and Daria K. Putnam-Steinhardt and James J. Steinhardt of Frederick, Maryland; and son and daughter-in-law John W. and Patricia S. Putnam of Exton, PA; seven grandchildren, Rebecca and Anna Pershouse, Anne, James and John Steinhardt, and Jonathan and Leah Putnam. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Agnes V. Sulak, and nephew Gene Shuman both of FL; brother- and sister-in-law Bernard and Betty Sulak of PA, sister-in-law Helen Sulak of VA, brother-in-law Andrew Hrebenar of PA, two nieces and spouses Deborah & Robert Morrisey of MA and Joanne & Robert Colbert of VA, and niece Deborah Sulak of TX, and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 15th at 11 am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown with the pastor, Reverend Michael J. Burns, celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm and on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the church. A private burial will be at the convenience of the family. Margaret B. Pierce

Margaret “Peg” B. Pierce, 84, of Columbia, Maryland, formerly of Bordentown and Chesterfield Township, passed away Friday, December 4th, 2009. She was a former employee of the Bank of Mid-Jersey. Living in Bordentown most of her life, she moved to Columbia, Maryland in 2005 to be closer to family. She is the daughter of the late Rosa and Daniel Borocz and is survived by two brothers, Daniel Borocz, Jr. of Jackson, NJ and Julius Borocz of Chesterfield Township, NJ, her children James E. Pierce and his wife, Marguerite, of Columbia, Maryland and Diane L. Poston and her husband John of Dallas, Texas.

She leaves behind her grandchildren, Kelly Thimmesch, Kristen McGrath and Paul Romberger and her great-grandchildren, Nathan and Erin Thimmesch and Natalie McGrath.

Private burial services were held December 7th, 2009 at Colonial Memorial Cemetery, Broad Street, Trenton, NJ.

Vincent James Pumilio Sr.

Vincent James Pumilio Sr. “Jimmy”, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 5th at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Born in Hackensack NJ, he was a long time resident of the Bordentown community. He was employed as a Journeyman, and was a member of Local’s 12, 2, and 4 of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Vincent worked on major construction projects and was an instrumental part of building the “Willow Brook Mall”, which is one of the largest malls on the East Coast. In 2008, Vincent received an award for serving 50 years of continuous membership and outstanding achievement. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Senior Citizens and the St. Vincent DePaul’s Senior Citizens groups. He was also a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Vincent was an avid 49ers fan, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and will be missed by many.

The son of the late Serafino and Antoinette Pumilio, he is predeceased by his sister; Gussi Castellano. He is survived by his loving wife; Marie J. Pumilio, his daughter and life partner; Therese Pierro and Tammy Smith, his son; Vincent J. Mary Ann Estgen

Mary Ann Estgen, 69 of Sebring, FL went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 1st, 2009. She was born in Trenton, NJ and retired from Public Service Electric and Gas Company, Bordentown, NJ. Served as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan; Rosary Alter Society at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Jobstown, NJ. She moved to Sebring in 2003 from Bordentown and was an active member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where she was involved with the Council of Catholic Women and had served as President of the Legion of Mary and also was a Columbiette and member of Sebring Elks Lodge. She is survived by her loving husband, William N. Estgen, Sebring; sisters, Margaret (Peg) and husband, John Cowell, Trenton, NJ, Joyce Ryan, Lake Placid, FL, sister-in-laws, Helen D. Estgen, Hopewell Twp, NJ and Leona Ryan, Trenton, NJ, many nieces and nephews and caring friends.

Valla Hansen

Valla Hansen, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27th at the Clare Estate located in Bordentown City. Born in Horgardal, Iceland she was a resident of Bordentown since 1946.

She was the daughter of the late Gudmundur Benediktsson and Unnur Gudmundsdottir, she was predeceased by her loving husband; Eigil V. Hansen Sr., she is survived by her son; Eigil V. Hansen Jr., her daughter; Ingrid Hansen, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ralph J. DeMarco

Ralph J. DeMarco, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20th at Arcadia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hamilton with his loving family by his side. Born in Trenton, Ralph made his home in Chesterfield for over 50 years before moving to Columbus. Educated in Trenton, he attended Trenton School of Industrial Arts where his talent for cabinetmaking flourished.

Ralph served honorably with 192d Ordinance Depot Company in The United States Army during World War II, he was a member of the Carpenter’s Local 31, the Societa Romana and Monteleonese Society of Trenton and a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Bordentown. Ralph enjoyed his life in Chesterfield, sharing many happy times with his neighbors raising their children together. His passion was woodworking and creating masterful reproductions of fine furniture. He enjoyed golfing and traveling the United States with his wife in their motorhome. He was a beloved husband, loving father and caring friend who will be missed by all.

Son of the late Luigi and Giuditta DeMarco, he is survived by his devoted wife; Barbara Ferri DeMarco, his loving son and daughter-in-law; Louis and Disney DeMarco, his loving daughter and son-in-law; Irma and James Fahy, his treasured grandchildren; Gina, Marie, Joseph, his wife Sarah and his many cherished nieces and nephews.

Gerald J. Pfieffer

Gerald J. “Jerry” Pfieffer, 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 14th at the Compassionate Care Hospice located at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton. Born in Trenton he was a lifelong resident of Bordentown. Jerry was a veteran of The United States Navy and a union laborer with the Local 172. His was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many and will be missed by all.

Son of the late Bonita Pfieffer, he is survived by father; Asher Pfieffer, his daughters; Stacey and Kristy Pfieffer, his son; Gerald J. Pfieffer Jr. their mother; Tammy Pfieffer, his grandsons; Christian Pfieffer, Gabriel Pfieffer, Cooper Johnson, his sisters and brother-in-law; Judy Foy, Bonnie and William Geldea, his loving girlfriend; Tracy Clark and countless friends and loved ones.

Ethel V. Adams

Ethel V. Adams, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12th at her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side. Born in Bordentown, she resided in Absecon, NJ for 35 years before moving back to Bordentown. She was employed as an Executive Secretary for Lenox, Inc. and retired in 1990 after over 35 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Bordentown Senior Citizens. Ethel’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, caring friend and will be missed by many.

The daughter of the late Henry and Stella Henry, she was predeceased by her husband; Allen W. Adams, her brothers and sisters-in-law; John and Phyllis Henry, and Harry and Ruth Henry. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law; Joanne and Harry Bowman of Cookstown, NJ, Kathy and George Dow of Burlington, MA; her grandson and his wife; Damon and Susan Bowman of Mercerville, NJ, her devoted great-grandchildren; Cameron, Matthew and Sean Bowman, and many nieces, nephew, and friends.

Doris Havens (nee Meyer), 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7th at the Burlington Woods Center. Born in Trenton she was a long time resident of the Bordentown area. She was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and enjoyed playing bingo, trips to Atlantic City and game shows.

The daughter of the late Englebert and Mary Meyer, she is predeceased by husband Daniel Havens. Hugh Leroy Hutton

Named Hugh Leroy Hutton at birth, our dear Lee passed suddenly to his heavenly home on Friday the 6th of November in the loving care of close family members and a skilled medical team. As the youngest of 6 children, he was born to Maude and Archibald Hutton of Trenton, NJ. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of St. Mary’s Parish of Bordentown for 55 years. Lee recently celebrated his 60th anniversary with the San Alphonse Spiritual Retreat House of Long Branch, NJ this past August.

He now joins his beloved wife, mother, brothers, sisters and numerous friends and relatives, all whom he has missed and had passed before him.

Lee is survived by his 3 grandchildren, most precious to his loving heart. His twin grandsons, Jason Harris and Thomas Harris III as well as his granddaughter Aurora Mancinelli, all NJ residents. Lee will be sorely missed by his surviving daughters and and son-in-law. – Sharon Hutton of Mount Holly, NJ and Judy and Mark Sergeant of Trenton, NJ. There are also many relatives including nieces and nephews who were great joy for him as well as Mildred (Millie) Tardiff, good neighbor of 55 years.

Lee found great companionship and kindness with his social families that include St. Mary Parishioners, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus of Bordentown, San Alphonse Retreat House friends, Holy Name Society (now disbanded), beloved friends from surrounding senior centers with whom he enjoyed delicious meals. Never to be forgotten is his Quoits League Family of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Trenton, NJ and as well as many dear friends of his bowling leagues of present and past years.

John T. Ondo Sr.

John T. Ondo Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on November 6th at Robert Wood Hospital in Hamilton with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years; Ann T. Ondo. He is also survived by his twin sons and daughter-in-law; John T. Ondo Jr., Michael J. and Tori Ondo, his daughter and son-in-law; Terry and Ray Michal, his grand-daughters; Stephanie Michal and Sammie Ondo.

He was retired from American Bridge, a division of U.S. Steel after 29 ½ years of dedicated service. He was also employed with Ocean Spray Cranberries, retiring after 9 ½ years of dedicated service. John proudly served his country in The United States Navy for 4 years during World War II. He was a volunteer fireman for Mission Fire Company in Bordentown and was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Church located in Bordentown. John was an avid Dodgers fan and enjoyed reading “westerns” but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grand-father, caring friend and will be missed by many.

Joseph F. Smith Jr.

Joseph F. “Smitty” Smith Jr., 44, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3rd at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Philadelphia, Pa he resided in West Deptford before moving to Bordentown Township in 2004. Joe attended Catholic University from 1983 to 1985 and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. He was employed as the Operations Director of Planning and Reporting for Radian Guaranty Inc. located in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located in Bordentown and a member of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085. A lifelong Eagles and Phillies fan, he enjoyed music and telling stories. But Joe's greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring son and friend, and will be missed by many.

Joe was the son of the late Joseph F. Smith, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife; Christina Q. Smith, his children; Ashley and Devin Smith, his mother; Linda J. Smith, his brother and sister-in-law; Donald and Christine Smith, his sister; Lynann Smith, his very dear friend; Kevin Rice, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and caring friends.

Iraida Diaz Alustiza

Iraida Diaz Alustiza, 85, died peacefully on Friday, October 16th at her home in Bordentown with her loving family by her side. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she was a long time resident of the Bordentown community.

Iraida attended Inter American University, San German Puerto Rico and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras. Her long career as a social worker included Director of Service to Military Families, American Red Cross, Trenton Area Chapter and bilingual school social worker for the Trenton Board of Education, retiring in June, 1996.

She was the daughter of the late Emilio and Candida Diaz, she is survived by her loving husband of 60 yrs., Ramon Alustiza, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Enid and Arthur J. Martin; son, Ramon E. Francis A. Sakiey

Dr. Francis A. Sakiey, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 3rd at his home in Chesterfield with his loving family by his side. Born in Trenton, he resided in Michigan, Wisconsin and Yardville Heights before moving to Chesterfield in 1983. Francis enlisted into The United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Francis received his Bachelors of Science degree from Rider University in 1961; he then went on to receive his Masters from the University of Michigan in 1965 and then his Doctorate from Rutgers University in 1973. He was employed as a Professor at the University of Wisconsin from 1965 – 1968. In September of 1969 he began teaching accounting at the Mercer County Community College; he retired “Professor Emeritus in December of 2000 after 30 years of dedicated service. Francis served as Past President of NJEA local at MCCC and was a Past President of Del Val GWP Organization; he was a member of the English Setters Club located in Medford and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church located in Bordentown. He raised and trained German Wirehaired Pointers, competing with his dogs across the nation.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Sophie Miciewicz Sakiey. He is predeceased by his brothers and sisters; Paul Mitchell, Helen Carney, Suzanne Klidzia and Patricia Shaudys.

He is survived by his wife; Dr. Elizabeth Haggerty Sakiey, “Professor Emerita”, his daughter and son-in-law; Cynthia E. and Kenneth Zola, his grandchildren; Kara and Zachary Zola, his brothers; Raymond Sakiey, James Sakiey, Thomas Sakiey; his sisters Michalina Cooper, Louise Sakiey, Eleanor Durepos, Alice Kistler and many nieces, nephews and friends.

George F. Smith, Jr.

George F. Smith Jr., 64 passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 16th at St. Joseph’s Hospital located in Wayne, NJ, with his loving family by his side. Born in Philadelphia, he was a resident of Bordentown for 32 years. George started his career with the Department of the United States Navy, as an apprentice instrument man, working his way up to a Civil Engineer; he was responsible for procurement. George loved his community serving as Presidents of the Bordentown Baseball Committee and the Bordentown School Board. He also ran the St. Mary’s bingo and the St. Mary’s Carnival for many years. George was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 and won first place as Exalted Ruler at the Elks State Convention in 2007. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. George’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, he was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring friend and will be missed by many.

Son of the late George F. and Margaret Smith, he is predeceased by his wife; Jean Marie Smith. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; Jeanmarie and Patrick Smith; his son; George F. Karen E. Swanson, 66 passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14th at the Compassionate Care Hospice located in St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton with her loving family by her side. Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong resident of Bordentown Township. Karen was a parishioner of St. Mary’s church of Bordentown and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and participating in the various functions at the Bordentown Elks. Karen’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring friend, and she will be missed by all.

Stephen G. McGowan

Stephen “Steve” G. McGowan,64, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13th at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Trenton, Steve had the very proud distinction of being a 7th generation Bordentownian. He graduated from St. Mary’s School and Trenton Catholic Boys School for 3 years, until its closure. Steve graduated from William MacFarland High School and attended Rutgers Technical Institute for Electronics. He was employed by McGraw-Hill in Hightstown for over 33 years.

Steve joined Delaware Steam Engine Company I when he was only 16 years old. When Bordentown fire companies merged, he became a member of Consolidated Fire Association. He was the Past City Fire Chief, Past Consolidated Fire Chief, Past Vice President and Treasurer of Consolidated Fire Association and NJ Fire Chief’s Association. He was also a member of the City Planning Board.

Steve loved Bordentown and contributed significantly to his community by volunteering in many ways; he enjoyed being a mentor in the Bordentown School District, working with elementary, junior high and high school students, he was a member and Parade Chairman of Bordentown’s 300th and 325th Anniversary Committees and he will be remembered the most for the Annual Bordentown Halloween Parade where he served as Chairman for 38 years.

The son of the late George and Elizabeth McGowan, he is survived by his beloved wife Pat McGowan, his loving daughters and son-in-law; Christy and Dave Huttner and Katy McGowan, his sister and brother-in-law; Anne and Ron Wix, his very dear cousin; Ellen and Tom Conscenti, his godsons, nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

Donald "Bear" Inman, 50, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Trenton, Donald was a lifelong resident of Bordentown. In 1977 he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and served as a combat engineer. He was honorably discharged in 1983. He was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed motorcycles. Don was the type of man who would never think twice about helping others, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and will be missed by many. Eunice V. Ely passed away peacefully on Saturday August 15th at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital located in Hamilton with her loving children by her side. Margaret Theresa Svocak

Miss Margaret Theresa Svocak, 89 years young, came into this world January 4, 1920 in Trenton, and left for Heaven July 26, 2009 at the home of her niece Marie in Bordentown. Margie was the 6th child of 7 of Urban A. Svocak and wife Maria (nee’ Macak). She was a loving and devoted caretaker and daughter to her earthly parents and Heavenly Father. She has now joined her siblings: Staff Sgt. Joseph Svocak, Rose and her husband Frank Evans, Anna and her husband Buddy Kohlhaas, infant brother Michael Svocak, Rudy Svocak, Maria and her former husband Luke Sherwood, and her nephews Paul R. Kohlhaas, Lenny Evans, and great nephew Craig Krosnick.

When only, six months old, the family returned to Mlynceky, Czecho-slovakia, and remained there for 6 years during which time her baby sister, Maria, was born. After they returned to the USA, the family resided in Trenton, NJ. Margaret was the first daughter to graduate from Trenton Central High School. Not too long after graduation she became a Civil Service employee of the State of New Jersey with the Department of Labor and Industry. She retired with over 50 years of service.

Margaret was a member of the Alter Rosary Society of the Roman Catholic Slovak Church of Saint Michael’s and remained true to her faith. She resided at Harney’s Corner in Trenton most of her adult life. In recent years she moved to the Clare Estates in Bordentown; and then to the home of her niece.

Margaret is survived by: Rudy’s wife Mary, their daughter Debbie, and her daughters Alicia and Marla. Anna’s children: Jo-Anne M. Wilson, husband David A. Jr., and sons Jonathan, and Daniel and wife Andrea, children Jessica, Amberlyn, and Ryan. Marie E. Krosnick, husband Tom J., daughters Michele and husband Edison Lee, and Lauren. Harry F. Kohlhaas, wife Melissa, children Shawn and wife Khrista; and Carolee and husband Kenny Oberholtzer, son Jacob. Rose’s daughter; Roasalie and husband Doug Britton, also, dear friends: Mary (wife of the late Max Krosnick), Bob Eigenrauch, John Hull, and Renata Jablonski.

Michael Krowicki, III

Michael Krowicki, III, 62, passed away peacefully on Friday July 17th with his loving family by his side. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident of the Bordentown area. Michael enlisted into the United States Navy in the spring of 1964; he was honorably discharged in 1970. He was an employee at the Mercer County College; retiring five years ago after 32 years of dedicated service. Michael was a long time volunteer Fire Fighter and served at many stations including; Derby Volunteer Fire Company - District #2, Chesterfield fire department and Mercerville fire department. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s church in Bordentown. Michael’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, he was a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and will be missed by many.

Donna J. Conley, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 11th 2009 at the Compassionate Care Unit of St. Francis Medical Center located in Trenton. Born in Phillipsburg, Ohio, she was a long time resident of the Bordentown area. She was employed as a Sales Manager for Dunham’s Department Store; she retired in 1996 after over twenty years of dedicated service. Donna enjoyed trips to the New Jersey Shore. Eigil V. Hansen Sr.

Eigil V. Hansen Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 23rd at St. Francis Medical Center located in Trenton. Born in Esbjerg, Denmark, he came to the United States in1940 and was stationed in Iceland with the U.S. Government before he and his wife moved to Bordentown in 1946. In 1948 Eigil established Eigil V. Hansen painting contractors; he retired from the business in the early 1980’s. He was the son of the late Fritz and Anne Hansen. He is predeceased by his brother; Sven Sorensen, he is survived by his wife; Valla Hansen, his son; Eigil V. Hansen Jr., his daughter; Ingrid Hansen, his sisters; Erna Balje and Edith Poulsen, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alexander T. Csapo Jr.

Alexander “AL” T. Csapo Jr, 57, passed away on Monday May 25th at his home in Bordentown City. Born in Trenton his was a long time resident of Bordentown City. In 1971 Al enlisted in The United States Army National Guard. He served honorably for six years with Company B 50th Maintenance Battalion. Al was employed as a machinist with General Motors located in Trenton; he retired in 2008 after over 20 years of dedicated service. Al had a love for his country and considered himself a “Citizen Patriot” and an “Environmental Enthusiast”. He will be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and will be missed by many.

He was the son of the late Alexander T. Sr. and Elizabeth J. Csapo. He is survived by his children; Selena, Bianca, Nila, and Zachary Csapo, his brother; Thomas S. Csapo, his niece; Krista A. Csapo, his grandniece; Elina A. Csapo, a dear friend; Mikki Quinn-Zikos, and many caring friends.

Lawrence J. Hastings

Lawrence J. Hastings, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 22nd at the Compassionate Care Hospice located in St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton with his loving family by his side. Born in South Bend Indiana, he grew up in Mishawaka Indiana. Larry enlisted in The United States Air Force and was stationed to McGuire AFB prior to being honorably discharged in 1965. He was employed as a manufacturing engineer for more than 30 years at Delaval in Trenton, NJ. He was then employed by Drexel Industries in Horsham, PA. He was a member of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085, Deputy Grand Knight Bordentown Council 570, Inner Sentinel and Color Corp Commander of Bishop Ahr Assembly 3087 and a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located in Bordentown.

Son of the late Lawrence and Antoinette Hastings, he is survived by his loving wife Josephine Hastings of Chesterfield, his two daughters and son-in-law; Antoinette M. and Francis Balkum of Tampa Fla., Susan Hastings of Fairfax Va., his two grandchildren; Jessica N. and Matthew L. Balkum of Tampa Fla. and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Barbara S. Gagliano passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 22nd at Temple University Hospital located in Philadelphia, Pa.

Eileen Mary Lamkin

Eileen Mary Lamkin, 81, passed away on Sunday, March 22nd at Care One in Hamilton. Born in Newfoundland, she resided in various locations with her husband who served 31 years in the US Air Force before settling in the Columbus, NJ area in 1979. She was employed at Fort Dix Army Post as a Disbursing Clerk in Finance and Accounting. She retired in 1992 after many years of dedicated service. Eileen was an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed sewing and traveled all over the world. But the greatest joy in her life was spending time with her family.

The daughter of the late Peter and Gertrude Finn, she is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene C. Lamkin, Jr., her sons and daughters-in-law; Eugene C. III and Michele Lamkin of Hawaii, Peter J. and Lori Lamkin of Michigan, Terrence A. and Kat Lamkin of California, Michael P. and Katherine Lamkin of Hamilton Square; her twin daughters, Maureen T. and Anne B. Lamkin of Jobstown; her grandchildren, Sinaia and Luke Lamkin of Hamilton Square; her brothers and sisters-in-law; Jim and Helen Finn, Gerald and Anita Finn, Patrick and Audrey Finn, Francis and Noreeta Finn, Thomas Finn, her sisters; Mary Madden and Margaret Finn, many nieces, nephews, and caring friends.

Victor R. Gilardi Jr.

Victor R. Gilardi Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 19th at Long Island Jewish Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Staten Island NY, he resided there before moving to Columbus NJ in 1965. Victor was part owner of the family business, Gilardi and Son’s Produce located in Staten Island. In 1951, Victor entered into the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in1953 with the rank of Sergeant, after the war, Victor, opened a business as a Jockey Agent. He managed a total of 9 Jockeys including his brother-in-law Anthony Russo and renowned jockey Jorge Velasquez with who he shares the distinction of being in the Racing Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed managing and working on his farms in NJ, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and will be missed by all.

He was the son of the late Victor R. Sr. and Angela Gilardi, he is predeceased by his beloved wife; Jean R. Gilardi and his sister; Mildred Butler. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law; Victor R. Eileen H. Fazekas

Eileen H. Fazekas, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 14th at the Compassionate Care Hospice located in St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton with her loving family by her side. Born in Trenton she was a long time resident of the Bordentown Community. Eileen was employed with Hamilton Hospital now known as Robert Wood Johnson Hospital as a Scrub Nurse and then later on in her career as a Central Supply Technician. She retired in 1998 after 35 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Bordentown Township Senior Citizens and was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Bordentown. Eileen enjoyed traveling and volunteering at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, but the greatest joy in her life was spending time with her family.

The daughter of the late Thomas and Veronica Cashel, she is predeceased by her husband; John S. Fazekas, her four brothers; Aloysius T. , William C., Raymond J., and Thomas A Cashel Jr, she is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law; Janice and Donald Inman of Bordentown Township, her two grand-daughters; Heather and Stephanie Inman of Bordentown Township; her brother and sister-in-law; Leo and Betty Cashel, her brother–in-law and sister-in-law; Joseph and Gloria Fazekas, her son, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Catherine G. Mislinski

Catherine G. Mislinski, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening at the Mercerville Center.

Born in Perth Amboy, Catherine was a longtime resident of Perth Amboy and Metuchen before moving to Columbus in 2004. During her life she had various jobs , one as a riveter during World War II at General Motors, her last employment was United Distillers located in Linden NJ from where she retired after twenty five years of dedicated service. She was a former member of the Ladies Lyceum Club of Pert Amboy, the Metuchen Seniors and the St. Francis Seniors. Among her hobbies were knitting, crocheting and bingo, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her niece Barbara.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Mislinski and Veronica (nee Wisniewski) Mislinski, she is predeceased by her sisters; Jennie Wickman, Mae Gregowitz, Jeanette Kolodziey, her brothers; Edward, Leon, Matthew and Eugene Mislinski, she is survived by her loving niece; Barbara DePhillipo of Columbus, NJ, her devoted sisters; Violet Potocki of Barnegat, NJ, her brothers; Joseph, Parlin, and Frank Mislinski all of Poconos, Pa. and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Theresa M. DiMattia, 50 passed away peacefully on Saturday February 21 2009 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Trenton, she was a longtime resident of Bordentown Township. Theresa worked as a Technical Assistant with the Division of Revenue located in Trenton. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed cooking and the New Jersey shore. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring friend and will be missed by all.

Joseph M. Spodaryk

Joseph M. Spodaryk, Age 69, of Bordentown passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 3rd at RWJ University Hospital at Hamilton.

Born and raised in Trenton, NJ he was a lifelong Bordentown resident.

He was valedictorian of Trenton Catholic High School, graduated from Villanova University with degrees in aeronautical and electrical engineering, and had Masters Degrees in Engineering from Drexel University and an MBA from Wharton School of Business.

Joseph was employed with the US Department of Defense for 39 years as an engineer and head of the information systems division at the Naval Air Warfare Center until his retirement in 2005. He was a nationally recognized expert on information systems and received numerous professional awards including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Navy.

Joseph enjoyed western movies and working on cars, but his greatest joy in life was being a husband and dad.

H. Sue Eskin

H. Sue Eskin, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 3rd at the Community Medical Center located in Toms River NJ. Born in Detroit she moved to Edison NJ in 1968 and resided there until 1987 before moving to Toms River. At the age of 17, Sue preformed as a singer with the Tony Bennet Orchestra and also with Gene Audrey. Sue enjoyed helping her community. She served on the Election Board of East Dover and called bingo at the Toms River Senior Center, but she will always be known as making the “Best Crab Cakes” in town.

She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Hermine Moynihan, she is predeceased by her husband; Bernard J. Eskin, she is survived by her daughter; Deborah K. Backus, her sons and daughter-in-law; James L. Backus, Robert L. and Kathi Backus, her brother and sister-in-law; Rev. Victor and Jerry Moynihan, her caring friend; Doreen Emerson, and many nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends.

Julia J. Black, 90, passed away peacefully on February 3rd at the Samaritan Hospice in Virtua Memorial Hospital Mount Holly. Born in Lawrence Township she was a lifelong resident of the Bordentown Community. Julia was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located in Bordentown City, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, caring friend and will be missed by many.

Julia was the daughter of the late Vincent and Kristina Karpowicz, she is predeceased by her husband; Edward F. Black, her sons; Edward W. and Reese Black, her son-in-law; John O’Neal and her daughter-in-law; Sjon Black. She is survived by her daughter; Faith O’Neal, hers sons and daughter-in-law; David C. Dorothy Bowker Inman

Dorothy Bowker Inman, 84 passed away on February 2nd at the Marcella Center located in Burlington. Born in Medford, she resided most of her life in the Bordentown-Roebling area. She was employed by Monsanto Company of Yardville and retired from Edward R. Johnstone, Bordentown. After retirement she moved to Swedsborg, Missouri for several years before returning to Wrightstown, NJ in 2004.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grand children and her dog Reds. She liked country music, old movies and the Phillies and Cardinals on television. She was an avid reader and enjoyed word search puzzles.

Dorothy was born on December 10, 1924 to her parents Berteram Bowker and Vesta Reed. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles D. Inman, her daughter; Carole Shipe, brothers; John Bowker, Amos Reed and sister Bessie Godwin. She is survived by her children, Larry and Janet Denney of Bordentown, Shirley and Wayne Walter of Wrightstown, Charles and Debbie Inman of Richland, Missouri, William and Dana Inman of Waynesville, Missouri, and James and Sissy Inman of Swedesborg, Missouri, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Carmella Jeanette Sklios

Carmella Jeanette Sklios, 90, passed away peacefully Monday February 2nd at home surrounded by her loving family. Born July 12, 1918 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Carmen lived in Bordentown for over 48 years. During WWII she was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters” contributing to the war effort. Carmen enjoyed visiting her family who lives in California, Hawaii, and Italy. She was a parishioner of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was the daughter of the late Cosimo and Antonina Cancilla, she was predeceased by her husband; Thomas Nicholas Sklios. She is survived by her children Thomas M. Sklios of Bordentown; Colette and son-in-law Albert Agabiti Jr. of Robbinsville; Carol and son-in-law Charles Carroll of Honaunau, HI; Robert and daughter-in-law Margaret Sklios of Somerset; brother Samuel Cancilla, sisters Gloria Cancilla, Lenora Cancilla, Mary Tournabene, sister-in-law Mary Cancilla; grandchildren Noelani Carroll-Brown, Chelsea Carroll, Lauren Agabiti, Sean and Molly Sklios. As well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We are eternally grateful for Sohier Sherief, Sheriefa Saleh, and Susan Benemile for their loving care and friendship they provided her.

George J. Hartmann Jr.

George J. “Brother” Hartmann Jr, 78, passed away peacefully on January 31st at the Compassionate Care Hospice located in St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton with his loving daughter Lynne by his side. Born in Trenton, George was a lifelong resident of Bordentown. After graduating from Trenton Catholic High School , he attended Eckels School of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, graduating in June of 1953. George then joined his family business, the Hartmann Funeral Homes of Bordentown, Mercerville and Trenton. From the 1970s until his retirement in 2002, George owned and operated the Hartmann Funeral Home of Bordentown. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Burlington County Funeral Directors Association where he served as Past President. He was also very active in the community as a member of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085, the Knights of Columbus Council 570 of Bordentown and a charter member of the Lions Club 6690 of Bordentown Township. George was a proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Bordentown. He served faithfully on the Parish Counsel and as Sexton of St. Mary’s Cemetery for many years. A friend and supporter of the sister’s of The Poor Clares, George often volunteered his time and service to them. George will be remembered for his compassion, devotion to the community and for his sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring friend and will be dearly missed.

The son of the late George J. and Rose A. Hartmann (nee Rose Varley), he was predeceased by his brother Raymond Hartmann. He is survived by his beloved wife; Dorothy L. Hartmann (nee Dorothy Worth) of Bordentown City, his daughter and son-in-law; Lynne and George Krause of Delran, his sons and daughter-in-law; George J Hartmann III of Niantic CT., Steven and Kathy Hartmann of Windsor CT.: his step-daughters and sons-in-law; Cynthia Guilfoy and Joseph James of Columbus NC. , Nancy Guilfoy of Bordentown, Jean and Steven Mastalesz of Delanco, his grandchildren; Abbie, Shannen, Michael, Katie, Amber, Michael K. and Amanda and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law; Rose Marie and Joseph Lynch, Patsy and Jerry Heupel, Marguerite Johnson, his brother; William Hartmann, his sister-in-law; Ann Marie Hartmann, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

John F. Meyer

John F. Meyer, 74 passed away peacefully on Friday January 23th at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia Pa. Born in Trenton John was a lifelong resident of the Bordentown area. John worked as a bus driver for Suburban Transit located in New Brunswick NJ, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. He then worked for Laidlaw Transit located in Ewing and for the past five years he was a driver for the Hampton Hospital. John enjoyed Antique Car shows, Woodworking, collecting coins and was a diehard Phillies and Eagles fan. He was a life member of the Derby Fire Company located in Bordentown. John lived life to the fullest, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. He was the son of the late Engelbert Meyer and Mary Meyer (Cope), he is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years; Kathy Meyer of Burlington, his loving son and daughter-in-law; Frederic and Nora Meyer of Bordentown, his loving daughter and son-in-law; Jennifer and Douglas Mechan of Frenchtown, his loving grandchildren; Jessica Meyer and Erika Meyer, his sisters; Doris Havens of Bordentown and Joyce Zolnoski; Burlington, his brother and sister-in-law; Donald and Deloris Meyer; Pensacola, FL and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
